Illustrated Microfiction
2024 · Project for the Microfiction Contest
One short story. Two completely different visual languages.
Two visual responses to one microfiction story. Instead of illustrating the event itself, each image translates the emotional atmosphere and the hidden meaning of the text into a single visual metaphor.
A visual metaphor inspired by a short story written by Izar Vicuña (one of the contest winners) where she talks about when music becomes a place of belonging.
"Notak biolinetik irristatzen dira, kaleko zorura iritsi arte. Bertatik pasatzen ari den jendeak zapaldu egiten dituzte. Inor ez da haiek jasotzeaz arduratzen, haiek entzuteaz. Baina musikariak jotzen jarraitzen du, egunen batean etxe bat aurkituko dutelakoan." - Izar Vicuña Bilbao
The second illustration approaches the same microfiction through a quieter visual language. Rather than describing the scene, it focuses on the small gesture that changes the story, inviting the reader to discover the narrative beyond the obvious.
